Upon a Mountain
A quiet voice carried across a mountainside — unfolding in stillness and space.
Upon a Mountain is a modern classical orchestral work by Lucio Petroccione, shaped by reflection on a moment of stillness, where a voice carried across a mountainside brought calm, presence, and quiet understanding.
The work draws from an imagined experience — what it might have been like to be there, among those gathered, listening as a voice moved through space with a sense of majesty and mystery.
This piece was composed during an earlier period while working as an assistant music editor at Boosey & Hawkes. At the back of the building stood an old piano, and on it, a worn copy of the Bible. Removed from the activity of the day, that space became a place of reflection. The music began there — gradually, without
intention, shaped as much by stillness as by sound.
