An Awkward Man
I stepped out of the plane and looked at the sunrise. As I walked down the stairs to the tarmac my foot touched China. It was one of the most memorable moments I have experienced. A stranger in a strange land.
After settling into the hotel, I had a time to explore the city - seeing the country I always wanted to visit. I walked the city, through the narrow streets and into the markets. I tried to take in every sight and sound at the same time, overloading my senses. It reminded me of my first time New York when I was very young.
There were walls of people wherever I walked. They flowed with their own rhythm like the automobiles and bicycles all around. My senses filled and filled until I turned down a dark alley to find some quiet and let my senses recover. But when I looked around, I found the snake vendors and a wall of snakes all around me - just like the people. I ran out of the alley and into the marketplace where it all began. It was wonderful!
