Two Sketches
Two Sketches is a two movement work composed while my wife was pregnant with our second child. Our son was going on two years old and as a family we had found a rhythm and balance. Although with a two year old, there is usually only chaos - so in a sense that was our balance at the time. The thought of a second child was so exciting yet at the same time I kept thinking about how our family rhythm and balance would change.
The first movement depicts our current family with all the chaos and fun - crashing into each other, playing and always together. The second movement captures the feelings of growing our family. It is more of a quiet feeling - humbling - with the love and anticipation of the new arrival. Although the two year old breaks in a few times to let us know he is still there. This was also my first piece performed in our new home Atlanta - so it was very special.
Score: Flute / Bb Clarinet / Vibraphone / Piano
