Two Movements for Voice
The work is based on two movements of the Requiem Mass. The first movement is the Dies Irae (Day of Wrath) and the second is the Offertorium (Lord, Jesus Christ). These were the first two sketches of a Mass I was working on at the time.
It was originally written for Soprano Voice, but was first performed with an Alto Flute instead of Soprano - because - at the last minute, we lost the Soprano scheduled for the performance. So we tried it.
To this day, I like the instrumental version of the work. Probably because of the performance and what we did to make it happen. We were young composers who wanted to change the world. Well, for the fourteen people in the audience that day - we tried.
Score: Alto Flute (Soprano Voice) / Piano / Violin
